Bingo Heeler

Red Heeler · Age 4 · Bluey's little sister

Bingo is the gentler, dreamier sister. She's happy to play whatever role Bluey hands her, until she isn't, and the episodes where Bingo finally gets her own way are some of the show's sweetest. "Sleepytime", a nearly wordless story about Bingo's dream on the night she tries sleeping in her own bed, is often named as one of the best episodes of any children's show.

Bandit Heeler

Bandit is the dad who will be a horse, a climbing frame or a talking shop till for as long as he's asked. He's not a perfect parent: he cuts corners, he teases, he gets grumpy when the games go on too long. That honesty is why so many adult viewers love him. He works as an archaeologist and grew up in a house full of brothers, which explains a lot.

Chilli is just as playful as Bandit but a little more grounded. She works part-time in airport security, keeps the household running, and is the one who usually notices what a child is really upset about. Episodes like "Onesies" give her space to show the worries she keeps hidden from the girls.

Cousin · Stripe and Trixie's daughter

Muffin is Bluey and Bingo's younger cousin and a small hurricane. She's loud, demanding and prone to meltdowns when she's tired, which the show plays for laughs without making her a villain. She's a good reminder for parents watching that every family has a Muffin phase.

Socks Heeler

Cousin · Muffin's baby sister

Socks is the baby of the family. In early episodes she still runs about on four legs and behaves more like a puppy than a child, and the show has her slowly learn to walk upright and talk as the seasons go on. She's mostly a background joke, but a well-observed one.

Uncle Stripe

Bandit's younger brother · Muffin and Socks's dad

Stripe is a lot like Bandit, which is both the joke and the point. He's still working out the dad business, sometimes struggling with Muffin's moods, and he and Bandit slide back into childish sibling competition whenever they're together.

Rad is the fun uncle who works far from home and makes every visit count. He's laid-back, adventurous and great at turning anything into a contest. His wedding to Frisky is the heart of the special "The Sign".

Frisky is Bluey and Bingo's godmother and a friend of the family who has known Bandit and his brothers for years. She's bubbly and kind, and she becomes family for real when she marries Uncle Rad in "The Sign".

Brandy is Chilli's sister, who has been out of touch for a while when she visits in "Onesies". She's fun and easy with the girls, and the episode quietly suggests she has longed for children of her own. It's one of several moments where Bluey trusts parents to pick up what kids won't.

Nana (Chris Heeler)

Bandit's mum

Nana is the girls' warm, slightly old-fashioned grandmother. In "Grannies", Bluey video-calls her to settle an argument with Bingo about whether grannies can do a trendy dance, and Nana turns out to be more fun than either of them expected.

Bob is the easy-going grandfather who appears at family get-togethers. He's happy to let the grandkids and his grown-up sons run riot, and you can see where Bandit and his brothers got their competitive streak.

Grandad Mort

Chilli's dad

Mort is a stubborn, outdoorsy grandad who lives in the country. In "Grandad", Chilli worries he's overdoing it and tries to make him take it easy, while he leads Bluey and Bingo across creeks and through the bush. It's a funny episode about a parent becoming the worried one.

Rusty is a country kid who loves cricket and playing army. His dad serves in the army and is often away, which the show handles lightly but honestly. The episode "Cricket" is built around Rusty's batting and is a favourite with grown-ups.

Mackenzie

Border Collie · School friend from New Zealand

Mackenzie is a confident, adventurous classmate who moved to Australia from New Zealand. He's happy to take the lead in games and to get his hands dirty, and he's one of the friends Bluey plays with most often at school.

Honey

Honey is shy and finds it hard to join in when a game is already loud and fast. The show uses her to model patience: how to notice a friend on the edge of a group and make room for them.

Indy

Afghan Hound · School friend

Indy is dreamy and imaginative, at her happiest in long pretend games that drift wherever she takes them. She's a natural partner for Bingo-style make-believe as much as Bluey's faster games.

Coco

Poodle · School friend

Coco is a pink poodle who wants to get straight to the good bit of any game and gets cross when things don't go to plan. In playground episodes she slowly learns that the slow parts are part of the fun too.

Snickers

Dachshund · School friend

Snickers is a curious little Dachshund who loves science and finding out how things work. He's usually seen with Winton, and he's the friend most likely to treat a game as an experiment.

English Bulldog · School friend

Winton is big-hearted and a bit clumsy, with more enthusiasm than tact. He can be a worrier underneath the bluster, and the other kids are quick to look out for him.

Pom Pom

Pomeranian · School friend

Pom Pom is the smallest pup in the class and hates being treated as if that means she's fragile. She's the friend who proves, again and again, that she can keep up with anyone.

Jack

Jack Russell Terrier · School friend

Jack is new at school and finds it hard to sit still, remember instructions or wait his turn. Rusty takes him under his wing in "Army", and the episode is widely praised for showing a child who might have attention difficulties with real kindness and no labels.

Three identical brothers who move as one, speak almost as one, and arrive at every game at full speed. They're comic background energy for most episodes, and they're impossible to tell apart, which is the joke.

Lila

Maltese · Bingo's best friend

Lila is Bingo's best friend, a small white Maltese who is as gentle and thoughtful as Bingo is. Their friendship is calmer than Bluey and Chloe's, and their games tend to be imaginative rather than competitive.

Lucky is the sporty boy next door, always up for a game of cricket or a kick of the footy. He and Bluey are more playmates than close friends, which is exactly how neighbour kids often are.

Judo lives on the other side of the Heelers and is a forceful, competitive playmate who often wins by sheer stubbornness. Over time Bluey learns how to play with her on fairer terms.

Jean-Luc

Labrador · Friend from "Camping"

Jean-Luc is a French-speaking boy Bluey meets on a camping holiday. They can't understand each other's words and play together anyway, building a den and spending days side by side. When he leaves, Bluey is heartbroken, and the episode's ending is one of the show's most famous.
