Paw Patrol follows a team of rescue pups and the boy who leads them. Whenever someone in the seaside town of Adventure Bay gets into trouble, Ryder calls the pups to the Lookout tower, picks the right specialists for the job, and sends them out in their custom vehicles. No job is too big, no pup is too small.
The series was created by Keith Chapman and is produced by Spin Master. It premiered in 2013 on Nickelodeon in the US and TVOntario in Canada, and has since grown into feature films, spin-offs and one of the biggest toy lines in the world. This guide covers every pup, with a quick table of jobs and vehicles, then Ryder, the townsfolk and the villains.

The original six pups
These six have been on the team since the first episode. Each has a clear job, a signature colour and a catchphrase, which makes them easy for young viewers to tell apart.
Chase
German Shepherd · Police and spy pup
Chase is the dutiful, serious-minded pup who acts as Ryder's right paw. He drives a police cruiser, directs traffic, uses a megaphone and a net launcher, and takes on spy missions with gadgets in his pup pack. He's brave and loves rules, but he has a soft spot or two: he's allergic to cats and feathers, which the show uses for a few good jokes. His line is "Chase is on the case!"
Marshall
Dalmatian · Fire and medical pup
Marshall is the clumsy, cheerful one who's always tripping into the elevator or skidding across the floor. He drives the fire truck with its ladder and doubles as the team's medic, checking injuries with an X-ray screen. Underneath the slapstick he's eager and kind. "I'm fired up!"
Skye
Cockapoo · Aviation pup
Skye is the smallest of the original pups and the only girl in the first line-up. She flies a pink helicopter and has wings in her pup pack, and she's fearless in the air. She's also central to The Mighty Movie, where she struggles with feeling too small to matter. "This pup's gotta fly!"
Rubble
English Bulldog · Construction pup
Rubble is the youngest of the original six: tough-looking but soft, fond of baths, snacks and skateboarding. He drives a yellow digger and handles anything involving building, digging or moving heavy things. He later got his own spin-off, Rubble & Crew. "Rubble on the double!"
Rocky
Mixed breed · Recycling and eco pup
Rocky is the team's inventor and fixer. He drives a green recycling truck stuffed with odds and ends, and he can usually build what a mission needs out of what other people threw away. He dislikes getting wet, which makes him and Zuma a natural comic pairing. "Green means go!"
Zuma
Chocolate Labrador · Water rescue pup
Zuma is the laid-back surfer of the group, happiest in or on the water. He pilots an orange hovercraft and wears scuba gear for underwater rescues. He's relaxed and friendly and often first to make a joke. "Let's dive in!"
Newer pups
As the show moved through themed seasons and spin-offs, the team grew. Some of these pups live away from the Lookout and join missions in their own territory.
Everest
Siberian Husky · Snow and mountain rescue pup
Everest lives on Jake's Mountain with her friend Jake, a snowboarder, and handles anything involving snow, ice or mountain trails. She drives a tracked snow plough and loves sledging. She was the first pup added after the original six. "Ice or snow, I'm ready to go!"
Tracker
Chihuahua · Jungle pup
Tracker lives in the jungle with his friend Carlos and speaks both English and Spanish. He's small, quick and has extraordinary hearing, which he uses to track lost animals and people. He drives a jeep with a winch. "I'm all ears!"
Rex
Bernese Mountain Dog · Dinosaur expert
Rex joined in the Dino Rescue series as the pups' guide to a hidden valley of dinosaurs. He knows every species and can even speak to them. Rex uses wheels to support his back legs, and the show presents this matter-of-factly, which many families appreciate.
Liberty
Dachshund · City pup
Liberty is a fast-talking street dog from Adventure City who helps the team in PAW Patrol: The Movie (2021) and earns her place on it by the end. She knows the city's shortcuts, rides a scooter, and brings an outsider's confidence to the group.
- Voice (film)
- Marsai Martin
Tuck and Ella
Golden Retrievers · The Mighty Twins
Tuck and Ella are twin pups introduced around the Mighty Pups era, when the team gained superpowers. They help out on super-powered missions and appear in later specials.
Al
Big Truck Pups
Al is a trucking pup who joins the team for the Big Truck Pups theme, where the rescues involve giant vehicles and long highways. He's friendly and easy-going and knows big rigs inside out.

Ryder and the people of Adventure Bay
Adventure Bay is a small coastal town where something goes wrong in almost every episode. Its residents are the people the pups rescue most often, and a few of them are almost part of the team.
Ryder
Team leader · Age 10
Ryder is the boy who founded the Paw Patrol, built the Lookout and trained the pups. He's unflappable, endlessly patient and always has a plan, which he shares with the team before every mission. He rides an ATV that can transform for different jobs and calls the pups with his PupPad. His motto, "No job is too big, no pup is too small", is the show's message in a sentence.
- Voice (2021 film)
- Will Brisbin
Mayor Goodway
Mayor of Adventure Bay
Mayor Goodway is kind, earnest and a little flustered, and she relies on the Paw Patrol more than any other resident. She carries her pet chicken Chickaletta everywhere, usually in her handbag, and Chickaletta wandering off is one of the show's most common emergencies.
Cap'n Turbot
Marine biologist
Cap'n Turbot is a gentle, wordy sea captain who studies ocean life from his boat, the Flounder. He's often first to spot trouble at sea, and he's friends with Wally the walrus.
Katie
Pet groomer
Katie runs the town's pet parlour, where the pups get bathed and checked over. She's a good friend to Ryder and the pups, and owns a cat called Cali.
Mr. Porter and Alex
Café owner and grandson
Mr. Porter runs a café and grocery stand and is always handing out treats. His grandson Alex is a young boy who wants nothing more than to be on the Paw Patrol and causes plenty of rescues trying.
Farmer Yumi and Farmer Al
Farmers
A farming couple whose escaping animals, stuck tractors and wayward crops give the pups regular work. Their farm is a common setting for gentler episodes.
Jake and Carlos
Everest's and Tracker's friends
Jake is the snowboarder who owns Jake's Mountain, where Everest lives. Carlos is the boy in the jungle who looks after Tracker. Both bring the pups into their very different corners of the world.
Villains and troublemakers
Most Paw Patrol episodes are about accidents rather than baddies, but a few recurring characters cause trouble on purpose. None of them is ever truly frightening.
Mayor Humdinger
Mayor of Foggy Bottom · Main villain
Humdinger is the vain, jealous mayor of the neighbouring town of Foggy Bottom. He wants everything Adventure Bay has, especially its pups, and schemes to get it with the help of his Kitten Catastrophe Crew. In PAW Patrol: The Movie he becomes mayor of Adventure City and makes a hilarious mess of it.
- Voice
- Ron Pardo
Harold Humdinger
Humdinger's nephew
Harold is a young inventor with a big ego and bigger contraptions. He's smarter than his uncle and usually more dangerous, though his gadgets tend to backfire.
Sweetie
Royal pup of Barkingburg
Sweetie is the Princess of Barkingburg's pampered terrier who secretly wants the crown for herself. She's bossy and sly, and her plots usually involve the royal jewels.
Sid Swashbuckle and Arrrb
Pirate and his parrot
Sid is a pirate who wants treasure and, in Dino Rescue, dinosaur eggs. His parrot Arrrb is his loud, squawking sidekick. They're more blustery than menacing.
Victoria Vance
Villain of The Mighty Movie
A mad scientist obsessed with meteors, Victoria Vance teams up with Humdinger to steal the pups' powers in the 2023 film. She's the closest the franchise gets to a proper action-movie villain.

- Taraji P. Henson

Voice cast notes
The TV series mostly casts Canadian child actors as the pups and Ryder, and those roles are recast as the actors grow up, so there's no single "voice of Chase" over the years. The films brought in some well-known names.
| Character | Voice actor | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Mayor Humdinger | Ron Pardo | TV series and films |
| Chase | Iain Armitage | PAW Patrol: The Movie |
| Liberty | Marsai Martin | PAW Patrol: The Movie |
| Ryder | Will Brisbin | PAW Patrol: The Movie |
| Delores | Kim Kardashian | PAW Patrol: The Movie |
| Victoria Vance | Taraji P. Henson | The Mighty Movie |
For parents: what Paw Patrol is about
Paw Patrol is aimed at preschoolers, roughly ages 2 to 6. Episodes run about 11 minutes, usually two stories per half hour, and follow the same shape every time: a problem, a call to the Lookout, a briefing, a rescue, and a thank-you. That repetition is a big part of the appeal for young children, who love knowing what's coming next.
- Teamwork and helping. Every rescue needs more than one pup, and the show's message is that everyone has something to contribute.
- Community roles. Police, fire, medical and construction jobs are introduced in a friendly, easy-to-grasp way.
- Mild peril only. Danger is always solved quickly and no one gets hurt; villains are silly rather than scary.
- Inclusion. Tracker's bilingual lines and Rex's mobility wheels are handled naturally.
Paw Patrol aired first on Nickelodeon, and fans of the pups often enjoy Bluey, whose dog family trades rescues for imaginative play, or Peppa Pig for something calmer. Toddlers who prefer songs tend to love CoComelon, and older kids who've outgrown the pups often move on to the slapstick of the Minions. With ten-plus specialists who each get a turn, it's also a good beginner's example of an ensemble cast.
