Megumi is the reserved, serious one, and the person who first finds Yuji. He summons shikigami from shadows (dogs, a toad, a giant serpent and more) and only saves people he judges worth saving, a principle Yuji keeps challenging. His father Toji was born into the Zenin clan, and his inherited technique makes him far more important to the clan, and to Sukuna, than he wants to be.

Nobara Kugisaki

Nobara left a small country village for Tokyo because she refused to live by anyone else's idea of her. She's loud, vain and fearless, and she fights with a hammer, nails and a straw doll that lets her strike opponents at a distance through Resonance. Her friendship with Yuji is the series' most purely fun relationship.

Yuta Okkotsu

Yuta arrives at the school as a timid boy haunted by Rika, the curse his childhood friend became when she died. Gojo trains him instead of letting him be executed, and he becomes one of only four special grade sorcerers. He's quiet and polite until someone hurts his friends. His technique turns out to be Copy, which, with Rika's help, lets him use other people's techniques.

Maki Zenin

Maki was born into the Zenin clan with almost no cursed energy. To the clan that makes her worthless, so she left to become a sorcerer out of spite. A Heavenly Restriction trades that missing energy for exceptional physical strength and senses, and she fights with whatever cursed tool the job needs. Her goal is to become clan head and tear the Zenin down from the top.

Toge Inumaki

Inumaki's words are a weapon: tell someone to "stop" or "blast away" with cursed energy behind it, and they do. To avoid hurting anyone by accident he talks only in rice ball ingredients, which his friends have learned to translate. He's playful, kind and a quietly dependable fighter, and every use of his technique damages his own throat.

Panda is not a panda. He's an Abrupt Mutated Cursed Corpse made by principal Masamichi Yaga, a doll that feels and thinks for itself. He carries three cores that he can swap between, including a heavy-hitting "Gorilla" mode. He's the easygoing big brother of the second-year class.

Kinji Hakari

Suspended Tokyo third-year

Hakari was suspended for clashing with the conservative faction and now runs an underground fight club. Gojo rates him as someone who might eventually surpass him. His domain plays out like a pachinko machine: hit the jackpot and he becomes nearly unkillable for a few minutes. He's loud, loyal and running on pure hot-bloodedness, and he becomes a crucial ally in the Culling Game.

Kirara Hoshi

Kirara is Hakari's closest friend and the person who runs the fight club with him. Kirara's technique marks targets with stars from a constellation and controls how they can approach each other, which makes for a frustrating opponent for Megumi and Panda.

Junpei is a lonely teenager who loves horror films and is drifting toward hatred of everyone around him. Mahito befriends him and wakes up his small talent for cursed energy, a poisonous jellyfish shikigami called Moon Dregs. His short arc with Yuji is the moment the series shows exactly how cruel it's willing to be.

Grade 1 sorcerer · Yuji's mentor

Nanami quit jujutsu to be a salaryman, decided office work was just as soul-crushing, and came back. He's precise, tired and allergic to overtime, and he treats Yuji like a child who shouldn't have to carry this much, which makes him Yuji's most important adult role model. His Ratio technique creates a weak point at the 7:3 line of any target, and he once held the record for consecutive Black Flashes.

Yaga is a gruff, imposing man who sews plush toys and brings them to life as cursed corpses. Panda is his greatest success. He taught Gojo, Geto and Shoko, and his test for new students is simple: why do you want to be a sorcerer?

Shoko was Gojo and Geto's classmate and is one of the very few sorcerers who can use reverse cursed technique to heal other people, which makes her too valuable to send into battle. She's dry, chain-smoking and unflappable, and she's one of the last links to Gojo's student years.

Kusakabe is one of the strongest sorcerers without an innate technique, relying on New Shadow Style swordsmanship and Simple Domain. He openly admits he would rather run than die, which makes him one of the most relatable adults in the series.

Ijichi drives the students to missions, raises the curtain barriers that hide fights from the public, and absorbs Gojo's threats with nervous patience. He's not a fighter, but the story makes clear that the support staff keep the whole system running.

Ino is a cheerful, earnest sorcerer who idolises Nanami and wants to live up to him. He fights with his eyes covered and channels four mythical beasts, each with a different effect. He's one of the minor characters fans tend to remember.

Yuki is a free-spirited special grade who has spent years abroad researching how to create a world without curses, instead of taking missions. She mentored Todo and asks everyone she meets what type of person they like. Her technique gives her strikes virtual mass, so her punches land like collapsing buildings.

Mei Mei is a mercenary who works for whoever pays best and says so cheerfully. She controls crows and can sacrifice one for a devastating strike. Her loyalty is entirely to money and to her little brother Ui Ui, which makes her an unreliable ally when things go bad.

Ui Ui is a quiet boy completely devoted to his sister. His technique can teleport people within a range, which makes him a useful support sorcerer and gets the pair out of trouble more than once.

Tengen

Immortal barrier master

Tengen is an ancient, immortal sorcerer who keeps the barriers protecting Japan's jujutsu sites. Every few hundred years Tengen must merge with a compatible human, the Star Plasma Vessel, to stop their immortality turning them into something inhuman. When that merger fails, the consequences ripple through the whole story.

Aoi Todo

Kyoto third-year · Grade 1

Todo is a huge, theatrical fighter who decides whether you're worth respecting by asking what type of woman you like. Yuji's answer makes Todo declare him his best friend, complete with invented shared memories. Under the comedy he's an excellent teacher of combat, and his clap-activated technique swaps the positions of anything with cursed energy.

Kamo is the composed heir of the Kamo clan who uses his clan's Blood Manipulation with prepared blood packs. He was the son of a concubine and pushed himself to prove he deserved his place. He's one of the more traditional students, but he isn't cruel.

Momo rides a broom and handles scouting and support from the air. She's bitter about how the jujutsu world treats women, who have to be both strong and pretty to be taken seriously, and protective of Mai and Miwa.

Mai is Maki's twin sister. She stayed within reach of the clan that despises them both and resents Maki for leaving. She fights with a revolver and can create a single bullet from nothing using Construction. The sisters' relationship is one of the most painful threads in the series.

Miwa is a self-deprecating swordswoman who became a sorcerer because it pays well and her family needs money. She calls herself useless and is a fan of Gojo. Her New Shadow Style Simple Domain is a good counter to fast opponents.

Kokichi was born with a Heavenly Restriction that left his body fragile and in constant pain, but gave him enormous cursed energy range. He attends school through a robot puppet called Mechamaru. He's desperate to meet his classmates in person, and that desperation leads him into a secret deal with the curses.

Arata's rare technique stops existing wounds from getting worse. It can't heal anyone, but it keeps them alive until someone who can heal arrives. That makes him a vital battlefield medic during Shibuya.

Utahime was Gojo's senpai and is endlessly irritated by him. Her technique, Solo Forbidden Area, is a ritual dance and song that boosts the output of allies inside its range, which makes her far more important in big battles than her rank suggests.

Principal of Kyoto Jujutsu High

Gakuganji is a stiff traditionalist who sides with the higher-ups, wants Yuji dead and clashes with Gojo constantly. In battle he surprises everyone by turning the sound of his electric guitar into cursed energy attacks.

Toji Fushiguro

The Sorcerer Killer · Megumi's father

Toji was born Toji Zenin with a total Heavenly Restriction: no cursed energy at all, and in exchange a body strong enough to beat sorcerers with cursed tools alone. Despised by his clan, he left, married into the Fushiguro name and became an assassin for hire. His job against Gojo in the Hidden Inventory arc shapes the entire modern story.

Naoya is arrogant, misogynistic and certain he deserves to lead the clan. He worships the memory of Toji while looking down on Maki for the same lack of cursed energy. His Projection Sorcery breaks each second into frames of pre-planned movement for ferocious speed.

Naobito is Naoya's father: a hard-drinking old man who's also one of the fastest sorcerers alive, thanks to Projection Sorcery. He fights in Shibuya alongside Maki and Nanami, and the instructions he leaves behind cause chaos inside the clan.

Megumi's stepsister

Tsumiki is the gentle stepsister Megumi grew up with. She has been in a coma caused by a curse for years. Saving her is his private reason for doing anything, and her situation becomes central once the Culling Game begins.

Kenjaku

Ancient body-stealing sorcerer

Kenjaku is a sorcerer who has survived for a thousand years by moving his brain from body to body. In the 19th century he lived as Noritoshi Kamo, the most infamous sorcerer in the Kamo clan's history. In the main story he's wearing Suguru Geto's body. He is the mastermind behind Shibuya and the Culling Game, and the most patient villain in the series.

Mahito

Mahito is a curse born from humans' fear and hatred of each other, and he acts like a curious, gleeful child. His technique reshapes the soul, and the body follows, which lets him twist people into monsters with a touch. He's Yuji's nemesis, and he does more personal damage to the cast than any other villain.

Jogo

Jogo has a volcano for a head and a short temper to match. He's the curses' self-appointed spokesman and wants humans wiped out. His flames are strong enough to incinerate grade 1 sorcerers, but his attempt to test himself against Gojo goes badly.

Hanami

Special grade curse · Born of fear of forests

Hanami is the calmest of the disaster curses. It speaks in a language humans hear as gibberish but understand anyway, and it genuinely believes it's defending the earth from humanity. It controls plants and is very hard to damage. Its fight with Yuji and Todo is where Yuji's Black Flash first lands.

Dagon spends most of the story as a cursed womb, a squishy octopus-like creature sitting in the curses' hideout. When it hatches in Shibuya, it floods the battlefield with sea creatures and a domain that seems endless.

Rika Orimoto

The Queen of Curses

Rika was Yuta's childhood friend, killed in a road accident as a girl. Yuta's grief and refusal to let go turned her into a monstrous special grade curse bound to him. Their story is the emotional core of Jujutsu Kaisen 0, and it reframes everything you thought was happening.

Suguru Geto

Former special grade · Gojo's best friend

Geto was Gojo's equal and best friend at school, until absorbing the curses ordinary people produce made him despise ordinary people. He became a curse user who wanted to kill every non-sorcerer, and he leads the attack in Jujutsu Kaisen 0. His technique absorbs and commands defeated curses, which is why his body is so valuable to the person wearing it later.

Uraume has served Sukuna since the Heian era and was reincarnated to wait for his return. They're unfailingly polite, cold in every sense, and have no interest in anything except Sukuna. Their ice can freeze an opponent before they react.

Choso is the eldest of nine Death Painting Wombs, half-human, half-curse beings created by Kenjaku over a century ago. He fights with his own blood, compressed into piercing shots. He starts as Yuji's enemy, then becomes one of the series' most devoted allies when he realises they're brothers.

Higuruma was an idealistic lawyer who lost faith in the justice system and awakened as a sorcerer the moment he snapped. His domain puts opponents on trial in front of Judgeman, a shikigami that knows everything they've done. It's one of the most original domains in the series, and his fight with Yuji is about guilt, not punching.

Kashimo is a sorcerer from about 400 years ago who agreed to reincarnation because he was bored: he never found an opponent who could match him. Now he wants to fight Sukuna. He's all lightning and loneliness, and one of the most powerful players in the game.

Takaba is a stand-up comic whose technique makes anything he finds funny become real, though he has no idea he's using it. He's the series' strangest wildcard and gets a surprisingly moving story about why people do comedy at all.

Hana is a young woman who shares her body with Angel, a sorcerer from the past whose technique can cancel other techniques outright. That makes her the most important person in the Culling Game for anyone who wants to undo a seal. Hana herself develops an instant crush on Megumi.
