Shigeo Kageyama, nicknamed Mob, is an eighth-grader with a bowl cut and no particular talents, except that he's one of the most powerful psychics alive. He can bend spoons, exorcise spirits and flatten buildings, and he would much rather be good at talking to people. He keeps his emotions tightly bottled because when they spill over, so does his power. When pressure builds, a percentage counts up on screen, and when it hits 100, something breaks.

Mob works part-time for Arataka Reigen, a self-styled psychic with no powers whatsoever who pays him almost nothing to deal with the real spirits his clients bring in. From that odd partnership the series grows into a story about growing up, with a cast of spirits, school club members and rival espers who each want Mob's power for something. The groups below follow the series' own structure.

Spirits and Such Consultation Office

Reigen's small office is where most episodes start: a client walks in with a haunting, Reigen talks big, and Mob quietly does the real work. Over three seasons it becomes something closer to a family.

Dimple

Evil spirit · Ekubo in Japanese

Dimple is a powerful evil spirit who was building a cult when Mob tore it down. Reduced to a small green blob with rosy cheeks, he sticks around Mob, claiming he's waiting for the right moment to possess him. He's sarcastic, scheming and hungry for followers, and also one of Mob's most honest friends, the one who points out things Reigen won't.

Akio Otsuka (JP), Michael McConnohie (EN)

Katsuya Serizawa

Former Claw esper · Office employee

Serizawa is a gentle, nervous man who spent years shut in his room, afraid of his own power, until Claw's leader recruited him as an enforcer. He carries an umbrella everywhere and is one of the strongest espers in the series. After Claw, he goes to work for Reigen and starts rebuilding an ordinary life, which makes him a kind of grown-up mirror of Mob.

The Kageyama family

Ritsu Kageyama

Mob's younger brother

Ritsu is everything Mob isn't: a top student, a student council member and effortlessly popular. He's also quietly jealous, because he has always wanted his brother's psychic power. When his own powers finally awaken, it comes with a guilty secret, and his arc is about coming to terms with how he really feels about Mob.

Voice
Miyu Irino (JP)

Mob's parents

Ordinary, cheerful, mostly unaware

Mob's mother and father are kind, slightly oblivious parents who treat his powers as a minor quirk. Their normality is part of the point: Mob's home life is happy, and the trouble comes from inside him and from the people who want to use him.

Salt Middle School: the Telepathy Club and Body Improvement Club

Mob's school life matters as much as his exorcisms. Two clubs bracket it: one that wants him for his powers, and one that welcomes him for having none worth mentioning.

Tome Kurata

Telepathy Club president

Tome runs the Telepathy Club, a struggling club of would-be psychics with no powers between them, and tries to recruit Mob as the member that will save it from closure. She's energetic, scheming and obsessed with aliens and the paranormal. She becomes one of Mob's regular friends, and one of the few people who treats him as a normal kid.

The Telepathy Club members

Tome's clubmates

The club's other members are a small, low-energy group of boys who mostly want an excuse to hang out. They're background characters, but their ordinariness is the joke: a psychic club that would be thrilled by anything Mob does without thinking.

Musashi Goda

Body Improvement Club president

Goda leads the Body Improvement Club, a group of large, muscular, extremely kind young men who welcome Mob without asking why a scrawny kid wants to join. They cheer for his slow progress more than anyone, and they're one of the show's most wholesome running gags.

Tsubomi Takane

Mob's childhood crush

Tsubomi is a popular, confident classmate whom Mob has liked since they were small children. She barely appears, which is the point: she's less a character in his life than a goal he keeps working toward. Her role in the finale gives the series its ending.

Mezato Ichi

Newspaper Club

Mezato is a persistent school reporter who is sure Mob is hiding a scoop. She tries to catch him on camera using his powers. She's sharp and nosy, and a fun foil for Mob's flat reactions.

Shinji Kamuro

Student council president

Kamuro is the small, sour, ambitious student council president Ritsu serves under. His schemes to control the school draw Ritsu into the student council storyline and test how far Ritsu will go to stay on top.

Teru Hanazawa

Esper · Black Vinegar Middle School

Teru is a handsome, cocky esper who has ruled his school by force since he discovered his powers. He believes espers are a superior breed, and Mob's indifference shatters that. He becomes one of Mob's closest friends and allies, a bit of a show-off still, but one who has learned to take ordinary people seriously.

Claw and the espers

Claw is a secret organisation of espers that wants to conquer the world. Its branches recruit psychic kids, test them and use them as weapons. Mob first runs into its 7th Division, and later the organisation's real leadership.

Sho Suzuki

Toichiro's son

Sho is a brash, rebellious kid who wants to bring down his father's organisation from the inside. He teams up with Ritsu, and his frustration with a father who sees him only as an asset gives Claw's story a personal edge.

Shimazaki

Claw esper · Teleporter

Shimazaki is a blind, ever-smiling teleporter and one of Claw's elite espers. He uses his ability to strike from anywhere, and his cheerful cruelty makes him one of the organisation's most dangerous fighters.

Claw's 7th Division

The branch Mob meets first

The 7th Division is a regional Claw branch of adult espers who kidnap Ritsu. It's the series' first proper villain group, and its members are as petty and insecure as they are dangerous, which is very much the series' view of people who think power makes them better.

Mogami Keiji

Legendary psychic spirit

Mogami was a famous psychic in life whose bitterness turned him into an extremely powerful evil spirit. He traps Mob inside a world of his own making to prove that people are not worth being kind to. His arc is one of the darkest in the series and a turning point for Mob's convictions.

Where to start and watch order

  1. Season 1 (2016) — Mob, Reigen and Dimple, the school clubs, Teru and Claw's 7th Division.
  2. Season 2 (2019) — Reigen's crisis, the Mogami arc and the war with Claw's leadership.
  3. Season 3 (2022) — The Divine Tree arc and the ???% finale, which completes the manga's story.

Watch in release order. There are short side episodes and OVAs, but none are required. Because the anime adapts the whole manga, you don't need to switch to the manga to get an ending, though ONE's original art is worth seeing; our manga vs anime guide explains why fans recommend both.

What the characters are about

Mob Psycho 100 is a story about an overpowered boy who doesn't think his power matters. Almost every antagonist believes the opposite, that being special entitles them to more, and each is beaten not by force alone but by Mob's view that everyone has worth.

  • Mob and Reigen are the core. A boy with enormous power and a man with none, and it's the man with none who teaches the boy how to live.
  • Teru, Ritsu and Serizawa are all espers who had to unlearn something, about superiority, jealousy or fear.
  • The clubs give Mob what his power can't: friends who like him for being himself.

Fans of ONE's other big series, One-Punch Man, will recognise the idea of an unbeatable lead who wants a normal life. If you like psychic fights with a strange sense of humour, try Dandadan, and for a darker take on spirits and exorcists, Jujutsu Kaisen. Reigen's office crew is a good example of the found family trope at its warmest.

Frequently asked questions

What does the percentage mean in Mob Psycho 100?

Mob suppresses his emotions because his psychic power is tied to them. The on-screen percentage tracks how close he is to emotional overload. When it reaches 100%, the emotion he's been holding back takes over and his power explodes outward, labelled with whatever feeling caused it, such as 100% rage or 100% sadness.

Is Reigen actually psychic?

No. Reigen Arataka has no psychic powers at all. He's a con artist who runs a spirit-consultation business using salt, massages and confident talk, and he relies on Mob to deal with real spirits. What he does have is real people skills and, over time, real care for Mob.

Who is the strongest character in Mob Psycho 100?

Mob himself, by a wide margin, especially when his emotions break through. His unconscious power, ???%, is the most destructive force in the series. Among other espers, Toichiro Suzuki, the leader of Claw, is the strongest, and Mob is one of the few who can match him.

Who is Dimple?

Dimple (Ekubo in Japanese) is an evil spirit who tries to start a cult and is defeated by Mob in the first episodes. He survives as a tiny green spirit who hangs around Mob, claiming he's waiting for a chance to take over his body. He's actually one of Mob's most loyal friends.

Who voices Mob and Reigen?

In Japanese, Mob is voiced by Setsuo Ito and Reigen by Takahiro Sakurai. In the English dub, Kyle McCarley voiced Mob in the first two seasons and Chris Niosi voices Reigen.

Is Mob Psycho 100 by the same creator as One-Punch Man?

Yes. Both were created by ONE. Mob Psycho 100 was drawn by ONE himself, in his deliberately rough style, while the better-known One-Punch Man manga is redrawn by Yusuke Murata. The two series share a theme: an overpowered lead who cares more about ordinary life than about fighting.
