In Helluva Boss, Hell has a small-business economy, and one of its scrappiest businesses is I.M.P, a tiny firm of imps who kill people on Earth for paying customers. The boss is Blitzø, a loud, self-sabotaging imp with a stolen royal spellbook, and his staff is a newlywed couple and a teenage hellhound who would rather be on her phone. Most contracts go wrong.

The series is created by Vivienne Medrano, who also made Hazbin Hotel. It started as a YouTube pilot in 2019, and its first full season began on YouTube in 2020. Under the workplace comedy, it's a surprisingly sad show about class, loneliness and people who can't say what they feel. This guide covers the I.M.P crew, Stolas and the Goetia family, the Sins and other demons, and the voice cast.

The I.M.P crew

I.M.P (Immediate Murder Professionals) runs out of a shabby office in Imp City. Imps sit near the bottom of Hell's social order, below the Goetia nobility and the Sins, and the whole company exists because Blitzø has access to something no imp should have: a way to reach the living world.

Moxxie

Weapons expert · Millie's husband

Moxxie is the anxious, rule-following one: a skilled shot who hates confrontation and gets yelled at by Blitzø more than anyone. He's the son of a mob boss, Crimson, and spent his childhood trying to escape that world. He's a strong singer, which the show uses whenever it wants a musical number, and his devotion to Millie is total.

Voice
Richard Horvitz

Millie

Field agent · Moxxie's wife

Millie is a cheerful farm girl from the Wrath Ring, raised in a big family, and by far the most physically dangerous person in the office. She loves the job and loves Moxxie, and she's usually the first one into a fight. She and Moxxie are one of the few healthy relationships in the series, which the show treats as a quiet anchor.

Voice
Vivienne Medrano

Loona

Receptionist · Blitzø's adopted daughter

Loona is a hellhound Blitzø adopted from a pound as a teenager. She's sullen and sarcastic and does as little work as she can get away with. Underneath, she's protective of Blitzø in ways she would never say out loud. Her episodes look at hellhound culture, dating and the strange, real father-daughter bond between a demon dog and an imp who has no idea how to parent.

Voice
Erica Lindbeck

Stolas and the Goetia

The Goetia are Hell's demon nobility, a class of tall, bird-like or animal-like aristocrats who hold titles from the Ars Goetia. They're far more powerful than imps and rarely notice them. Stolas is the exception, and that one exception sets the whole show going.

Octavia

Stolas's daughter

Octavia is Stolas's teenage daughter: moody, goth-adjacent and caught between two parents who can barely stand each other. Her relationship with her father is the warmest thing in Stolas's life. She becomes friends with Loona, and their scenes are a good look at the two teenagers who are most clearly paying for the adults' mistakes.

Voice
Vivienne Medrano

Stella

Stolas's wife

Stella is a cold, contemptuous Goetia noble in an arranged marriage with Stolas. Once she learns about his time with an imp, she sets out to have him killed. She treats imps as vermin and her husband as a stain on her family name. The show gives her almost no sympathy, which is a deliberate contrast with Stolas.

Andrealphus

Stella's brother

Andrealphus is a peacock-like Goetia with ice powers who backs his sister against Stolas. He's colder and quieter than Stella, and more dangerous for it. He's one of the few characters in the show who can match Stolas's power directly.

Paimon

Stolas's father

Paimon is a Goetia king and the father who arranged Stolas's marriage. His brief appearances explain a lot about why Stolas grew up so sheltered and so unwilling to stand up for himself.

The Sins and other powers

Helluva Boss visits several of Hell's rings, each ruled by one of the Seven Deadly Sins. The Sins are the highest powers below the royal family, and each one gives their ring a very different look and sense of humour.

Asmodeus

Sin of Lust · Ruler of the Lust Ring

Asmodeus, or Ozzie, runs a glitzy club empire in the Lust Ring. He's flamboyant and very funny, and he's a surprisingly sincere romantic about one person. He's also one of the few powerful characters who seems content with his life. His relationship with Fizzarolli is one of the show's healthiest.

Voice
James Monroe Iglehart

Fizzarolli

Jester and performer · Asmodeus's partner

Fizzarolli is a jester-imp with robotic limbs and a stage career built on making people laugh. He's also tied to Blitzø's childhood at the circus, and their shared history, and the falling-out between them, is one of the show's best-handled backstories. Merchandise based on him is a running gag in Hell.

Voice
Alex Brightman

Mammon

Sin of Greed

Mammon runs the Greed Ring like a predatory entertainment empire, and he owns Fizzarolli's career. He's greedy, cruel and hugely successful, and the show uses him to comment on celebrity and exploitation.

Beelzebub

Sin of Gluttony

Beelzebub rules the Gluttony Ring and throws its endless parties. She's loud, fun-loving and much friendlier than most powerful demons, which makes her a welcome change from the cold nobility elsewhere in the show.

Striker

Imp hitman from the Wrath Ring

Striker is a cowboy-styled imp assassin with a rifle and a grudge against the Goetia, hired by Stella to kill Stolas. He's everything Blitzø is not: calm, competent and principled about class in his own twisted way. He becomes one of the series' recurring threats.

Voice
Norman Reedus

Verosika Mayday

Succubus pop star · Blitzø's ex

Verosika is a succubus pop star and Blitzø's bitter ex. Their reunions are disasters, but she gets a more layered treatment over time and ends up with a bit more patience for Blitzø's crew than she had at first.

Crimson

Mob boss · Moxxie's father

An imp crime boss and Moxxie's estranged father. He embodies everything Moxxie ran away from and treats his son as a disappointment.

Barbie Wire

Blitzø's twin sister

Blitzø's estranged twin, a tough, punk-styled imp. Their falling-out connects to the same childhood events that shaped his friendship with Fizzarolli.

Vortex

Hellhound · Loona's friend

A large, friendly hellhound who is one of Loona's few real friends. He's one of the show's most relaxed and good-natured characters.

Sallie May

Millie's sister

One of Millie's siblings from the Wrath Ring, she's as tough as her sister. She turns up in episodes set in Millie's hometown.

Voice cast at a glance

Like Hazbin Hotel, Helluva Boss draws on Broadway and stage performers, and several actors appear in both shows. Alex Brightman, for example, voices Fizzarolli here and Sir Pentious and Adam in Hazbin.

How Helluva Boss connects to Hazbin Hotel

The two shows share one Hell. Hazbin Hotel focuses on sinners (dead humans) in Pentagram City, in the Pride Ring ruled by Lucifer and his daughter Charlie. Helluva Boss follows hell-born demons, mostly imps, and roams the other rings and Earth. Heaven's yearly extermination of sinners, the big crisis in Hazbin, isn't the focus of Helluva Boss at all, which tells you a lot about how separate the two worlds feel.

  • Shared setting. The rings, the Sins and the Goetia are common to both shows. Helluva Boss is where you see most of the Sins up close.
  • Cameos. Hazbin characters and references occasionally turn up in the background of Helluva Boss episodes, and spotting them is a fan hobby. These are nods, not plot points.
  • Shared actors. Several voice actors work on both shows, often in very different roles.
  • Independent stories. Neither show requires the other. Our Alastor profile and Charlie Morningstar profile are good starting points if you want the Hazbin side.

Where to start and how to watch

  1. Start with the pilot — it introduces the I.M.P crew and the basic set-up. Some designs and voices changed for the series, so expect differences.
  2. Watch season one in order — the episodes look standalone, but the Stolas and Stella plot builds steadily toward the finale.
  3. Continue to season two — it shifts toward backstory and relationships, with more serialised storytelling. Episode order matters more here.

Episodes are released free on the VivziePop YouTube channel, on an irregular schedule. Check the channel for the current list rather than relying on fan-made schedules.

A note for parents

What the characters are really about

Helluva Boss looks like an office comedy about murder, but most episodes are about people who can't ask for what they need.

  • Blitzø believes anyone above him will only ever use him, so he rejects affection before it can be taken away.
  • Stolas has every privilege except the freedom to be loved on his own terms, and he's bad at seeing how much that privilege affects Blitzø.
  • Moxxie and Millie show the opposite: a couple who talk to each other, which is rarer in this Hell than murder.
  • Loona and Octavia are two teens raised by adults who are still figuring themselves out.

Class runs through all of it. Imps, hellhounds and Goetia live in different worlds, and the show's best episodes ask whether anyone can cross those lines without getting hurt. Like the hotel crew in Hazbin, the I.M.P team is a found family, held together by loyalty more than by anyone being good at their job.

Frequently asked questions

What does I.M.P stand for in Helluva Boss?

Immediate Murder Professionals. It's Blitzø's small assassination business: clients in Hell pay to have people still living on Earth killed, and the team travels up through portals opened with Stolas's grimoire to do the job.

Who are the main characters in Helluva Boss?

The I.M.P crew: Blitzø, the boss; Moxxie and Millie, a married pair of imp assassins; and Loona, the hellhound receptionist Blitzø adopted. Stolas, a Goetia prince who lends Blitzø his spellbook, is the fifth main character.

Is Helluva Boss connected to Hazbin Hotel?

Yes. Both are created by Vivienne Medrano and set in the same Hell. Hazbin Hotel stays mostly in Pentagram City in the Pride Ring; Helluva Boss travels across the other rings and up to Earth. The casts barely meet, so you can watch either one first. See our Hazbin Hotel characters guide for the other side.

Who voices Blitzø and Stolas?

Blitzø is voiced by Brandon Rogers and Stolas by Bryce Pinkham. Richard Horvitz voices Moxxie, Vivienne Medrano herself voices Millie, and Erica Lindbeck voices Loona.

Why is it spelled Blitzø?

The "o" is silent. It's a running joke: he insists on the extra letter and calls himself Blitz, while Stolas usually uses the full name, which annoys him every time.

Is Helluva Boss for kids?

No. It's an adult comedy with heavy swearing, sexual jokes and themes, drinking and bloody violence. The bright cartoon style is misleading. It's meant for adult viewers, and parents should treat it the way they would any mature-rated animated show.
